You can apply for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Global Health Palliative Care (GHAP) African Ph.D. Training Fellowship for the academic year 2023-2024.

The NIHR-GHAP African Ph.D. Training Fellowship will focus specifically on three work streams. Funded by National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), this fellowship program will accept participation from Ph.D. students from African countries residing in Africa. The applicants must preferably hold an MSc or an Upper Second-Class degree in health, medicine, nursing, palliative care, or similar to be considered. Selected candidates can expect a full tuition fee and a stipend of £16,711 per year.

Eligibility for African Ph.D. Training Fellowship 

  • Eligible Countries: Students from African countries are eligible to apply.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Students can apply for a Ph.D. level study program related to palliative care and rehabilitation at King’s College London.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • The applicants must be living in Africa.
  • The applicants must have excellent research-related computing skills.
  • The applicants must the ability to grasp new information and learn new skills quickly and a commitment to high-quality research and care delivery.
  • The applicants must focus on three workstreams in Uganda, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, respectively.

How to Apply for NIHR Global Health Palliative Care

  • How to Apply: Students can submit their initial admission application via the university portal. All applicants that meet the scholarship criteria will be considered automatically.
  • Supporting Documents: The applicants must prepare 500 words on research interest/outline plan in line with any of the three workstreams and 500 words on the potential impact of their Ph.D. and their career pathway, CV, and reference letters from two referees (one academic and one employer).
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must have a minimum Upper Second-Class degree in health or social sciences, medicine, nursing, psychology, palliative care, or similar.
  • Language Requirement: The students must submit scores of the following English language proficiency tests:
  • CAE/CPE – 191
  • IELTS – 7.0
  • TOEFL IBT – 100
  • PTE – 75
  • ISE – Level III (ISEIII)

Benefits of NIHR Global Health Palliative Care 

The King’s College London will award the successfully selected candidates a fellowship stipend of £16,125 – £16,711 per year and full international Ph.D. fees coverage.
